My "not-so-secret" obsession
My favorite show on television is by far "The Walking Dead". I am completely obsessed with that show! I've read all of the comic books (good, but not as amazing as the show), I have two tee shirts (Darryl and Michonne), and I even planned to go to the "Walker Stalker" convention this past weekend in Chicago. I wasn't able to go because we were celebrating my great grandma's 100th birthday. I guess since she waited 100 years for it, I can wait for one more year to go to the convention. People always ask me who my favorite character is. I used to quickly answer that it was Darryl. However, as the years have gone by, I really love all of the main characters. Darryl is still the rough guy with the heart of gold. Rick is the former cop who will stop at nothing (seriously, he killed someone by ripping his throat out with his teeth) to protect his family. Michonne is the former businesswomen and mom who survived by teaching herself how to wield a katana and used zombies as pets. Glenn is the former pizza guy who has become a determined leader and the moral compass of the group. I could go on and on all day. If you ever want to see me get really passionate about something, come talk to me about this show!
Movies
My all-time favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. It's a story about a man who is falsely convicted of killing his wife and the man she was having an affair with. He is sent to prison for life. He figures out a way to escape and spends years working towards that goal. I won't spoil the movie (which you shouldn't watch until you're older) by telling you how it ends. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll get to see Morgan Freeman- what more could you want?
Other movies I love, but not quite so much, include Grandma's Boy, Super Troopers, The Sandlot, The Goonies, and The Notebook. I love all genres: comedy, romance, horror, action, adventure, suspense, etc.

Food
My favorite food? Well, let's be honest- I like a lot of food! My absolute favorite food is my mom's broccoli casserole. It's cheesy deliciousness that tastes like my childhood. She makes it for every important family occasion. As an adult, I've attempted to make it once. It tasted pretty much the same as hers, but it just wasn't the same. I think making it myself took all of the magic out of it. A couple of my other favorite foods are seven layer bars and a juicy filet mignon. My husband is an amazing cook (as all of you smart cookie winners have found out). He is also quite the grill man. I always get excited when he hovers near the meat section in the grocery store. I know that means a nice, juicy filet will be in my future!
Books
I have a lot of favorite books. When I think back to my childhood, I loved Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli. I remember reading To Kill a Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies in high school. I really enjoyed both of those books too. I read and loved the entire Harry Potter series. Anyone who hasn't had the story line spoiled by the movies and still hasn't read the books needs to read the books immediately! Please read the books first. As usual, the books are so much better than the movie. You all know I love reading The Princess Bride and The Outsiders.
Some of the books I love to read that are meant for adults are written by a guy named Wally Lamb. He wrote a book called The Hour I First Believed. It is about a staff member who worked at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. There was a major school shooting that occurred there in the late 90's. Another good book by him is called I Know This Much is True. It's about a set of identical twins. One of the twins became schizophrenic as an adult. It's a very interesting, but sad, story.
One of my favorite things about being a teacher is seeing kids learn to love to read. If you ever want a book recommendation, please ask me.

Music
I know that people tend to like the music that they grew up listening to, and I guess that's true for me as well. My all-time favorite singer is Bruce Springsteen. I love everything about his music- his gravelly voice, the emotions, the lyrics, the meaning behind the songs. At our wedding, our first dance was to "If I Should Fall Behind" by Bruce Springsteen. I couldn't even tell you which of his songs I like the best. They are all so great. After that, and this is going to seem like a big switch, I love 90's hip hop and rap music. My favorite rappers are Tupac and Dr. Dre. I remember sitting in my room and bawling when I found out that Tupac died.
